RCMP Complaints Commissioner launches investigation into death of Robert Dziekanski

... on Thursday, Canada's RCMP complaints commissioner announced he has launched an investigation into the death of the Polish immigrant, bringing to four the number of official investigations into the incident. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is reviewing the case, the force is doing an "independent officer review," and the coroner is planning an inquest.

"Given the ongoing expressions of public concern as they relate to the degree and type of force required by police officers when effecting an arrest ... and the propriety of the police investigating the police, I am satisfied that there are reasonable grounds to investigate the conduct of all members involved," said Paul Kennedy, chair of the Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP, in announcing the investigation.

He said he will look into whether the officers at the scene, as well as those investigating the death, complied with all appropriate policies, procedures and guidelines.
