CHILLIWACK, B.C. - RCMP say the Chilliwack man who was hospitalized Monday following a violent confrontation with RCMP remains in extremely critical condition in a Metro Vancouver hospital.

Chilliwack Const. Lea-Anne Dunlop confirms the condition of the man, whose name has not been released. A Vancouver media outlet reported Wednesday night 36-year-old man had died. The man was rushed to hospital after two RCMP officers needed pepper-spray, Tasers, batons and finally additional officers to subdue him when he became agitated and combative during the Monday altercation at a Chilliwack business.

Dunlop says the two officers involved remain on active duty in the detachment while a full, independent probe continues. Investigators would like to speak to anyone who may have seen what happened or had contact with the man leading up to the confrontation.
