Seldon Deshotels, 56, unarmed
A Louisiana doctor (a former pathologist) died on November 1st after being hit with a taser shot by Lake Charles police. It started when lawmen responded to a homeowner’s report of a prowler. The homeowner chased the man to some nearby apartments. When police arrived, Seldon Deshotels, Jr. ran away and began to fight with officials before an officer tasered him. Once handcuffed, Deshotels collapsed and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. An autopsy has been ordered.
This is the 10th death in Louisiana since 2004.

Dr. Deshotels was a kind and very gentle person; a really good man. This episode would be completely out of character. I suspect that there is much more than what we have been told.
Tasers are dangerous. The Taser company should be put out of business.
Dr. Deshotels was mistaken, according to police reports and eyewitnesses for the intruder in the neighborhood. It was a tragic incident of mistaken identity. Dr. Deshotels was attacked brutally by a homeowner in the area and was knocked unconscious and was unable to respond to the police demands. The police officers then used the taser. The taser films are being investigated and the entire incident will show that there was no reason to have tased him which contributed to his death.
This was an upstanding citizen, human being, father, husband, son and brother to a family in grief.
