Youth (15) yells at police, gets tasered

MIRAMAR - Police used a Taser to shock a 15-year-old boy Friday afternoon after he yelled at officers trying to arrest a friend, authorities said.

The teen, who was not identified, was charged with obstruction of justice and resisting arrest with violence, police spokesman Bill Robertson said.

The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. near Glades Middle School, just off Bass Creek Road. Two officers had just stopped a 14-year-old boy who was not a student at the school, and had prior arrests for trespassing on school property, Robertson said. He bolted when the officers told him to stop but they caught up to him a block away from the school, officials said.

As they were taking him into custody, the officers heard the 15-year-old start to yell at them, Robertson said. The 15-year-old was a Glades student.

"He was throwing insults at the officers, and it looked like he was coming to the aid of the other kid," Robertson said.

Robertson said the officers told the teen to stay away, but he removed his backpack and kept walking toward them. When he got too close, one of the officers shocked him with a Taser, Robertson said.

Both teens were taken into custody. The 14-year-old was charged with trespassing.

Robertson didn't know if the boys were taken to a juvenile detention center or if they were released to their parents.
