Kentucky man dies after taken into police custody

A man is dead after Covington Police responded to a ‘man with a gun’ call Wednesday morning. Just after 11 a.m., police went to the area of Highland Avenue near Jefferson Street to investigate. According to police, upon their arrival a man matching the description of the person carrying the gun confronted the officers.

According to officials, the officers observed the man, which led them to believe that he was armed and therefore attempted to control him.

The individual, police said, resisted the officers’ efforts and a struggle ensued.

Once the subject was taken into custody, according to police, he showed signs of medical distress. Emergency medical services were immediately called to the scene and he was transported to an area medical facility, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Covington Police Department is continuing its investigation. The identity of the deceased has not been released.
